What is the “Los Ángeles” Hospice?

It is a foster home for terminally ill patients with different pathologies, of limited financial resources and do not have a decent place to spend their last moments of his life.

What does the “Los Ángeles” Hospice offer?

The Hospice offers rooms with proper bathrooms, daily care, wheelchairs, and all necessary equipment for their illnesses.

Also, there are resources for families visiting: kitchen, dining room, and laundry.  There is a beautiful chapel for families and residents for prayer and services.  The residents receive 24 hour care - physically, psychologically, spiritually - through the help of volunteers. 

What are the requirements for a patient to be admitted?

    1. Provide a medical report stating that you are terminally ill.

    2. Copy of your government issued ID card and two ID cards of emergency contacts/family members.

    3. Copy of utility bill showing permanent residence.

    4. Sign Hospice admittance agreement.

Is the Los Angeles Hospice only available to the parishioners of Santisimo Sacramento?

No, it is for all the terminally ill in the cities of Piura and Tumbes.

Is the Los Angeles Hospice only available for the elderly or are children also allowed?

The Hospice is open to patients of all ages, including children, with terminal illnesses.

Can patients with such diseases as AIDS or Tuberculosis be admitted?

Yes, as long as they meet all the requirements.

Does the Hospice provide medical care for patients at no cost?

No, if a patient needs additional care, the family would need to pay for the service.

Does the Hospice provide internal medicine?

No, right now we don't have access to the equipment to provide that kind of care.

Will the Hospice provide food for the residents?

Both the families and Hospice will provide food.  It's encouraged for the family to bring meals for their family members.

Who will prepare the meals for the residents?

The families and volunteers will prepare the meals.  The Hospice has a kitchen with all the necessary utensils and supplies.

Should the patient bring their own bedding?

No, the Hospice will provide bedding.

Who will wash the patient's clothes?

The family is responsible for washing the patient's clothes but the Hospice has washing machines they can use.

What is the cost to the patient for staying at the Hospice?

There is no cost to the patient.  Hospice services are free of charge because of the donations Santisimo Sacramento receives.  

If a sick (but not terminally ill) person is having trouble receiving care because they live in the remote areas of Piura, can they come to the Hospice?

No, the Hospice is only for the terminally ill.

Can a person of another religion be admitted to the Hospice?

Sure, as long as the patient respects our Catholic environment.

Is there a cost for a funeral of a Hospice patient?

No, the chapel will be provided free of charge to hospice patients.

Are the cost of the coffin and cemetery plot included?

No, the family is responsible for the cost of the coffin and cemetery plot.

Can patients leave the hospice for a short period of time?

Yes, patients can leave the hospice but the family member will become responsible for the care of the patient at that time.

When family members are visiting patients at the hospice, may they sleep there?

Of course, if the family wishes to accompany the patient at night they may.

What are the visiting hours?

There are no scheduled visiting hours.  Family members can visit their patients whenever they wish.

How long can the terminally ill stay in the hospice?

The maximum time patients may stay at the hospice is 6 months.

May I admit a patient that is not a family member and be their emergency contact?

Yes, provided you comply with the provisions that you are responsible for their medical expenses and supplies.

What if a patient is abandoned?

The hospice will take appropriate actions with the information provided by the admittance agreement signed by the family.
